Internet:
We have an internet key at site, and check email every few days. However, we have to pay by the hour and it's very expensive, so we keep internet usage to a minimum.

The mail service in Senegal is not as
efficient as the US Postal Service. It can take up to 3-4 weeks for
mail to arrive. Additionally, there is a high incidence of theft and
heavy custom taxes.Tips: use our Senegalese names and American names (above), send inexpensive items, use padded envelopes instead of boxes if possible (for lower custom fees), use DHL for lightweight important items, number your letters so that we know if one is missing, send postcards in envelopes, write “Senegal–West Africa” and “Airmail” or “Par Avion” on all letters. You can write “Religious Materials” or “Personal Products” on the outside of packages to further deter theft.

Visiting us in Senegal:
We welcome visitors! Our site is a
mere 5 hours from Dakar, which is only a 7 hour flight from NYC or Washington,
D.C. Not bad, right?
To plan a trip to Senegal, here’s
what you need to know:
As
of July 1 2013, a valid passport, visa and evidence of yellow-fever vaccination
are required for entry into Senegal. A meningitis vaccination is highly
recommended if the traveler is arriving from or has recently traveled to an
endemic area. Travelers unable to provide proof of vaccinations may be required
to pay for and receive vaccinations at the Dakar airport.
All
visitors to Senegal require a tourist visa for three months. The official site
for purchasing the visa can be found at www.visasenegal.sn. Since the visa is biometric, U.S.
citizens wishing to travel to Senegal must first apply for the visa and pay the
fees (approximately $67) before appearing in person to be fingerprinted. This
can be accomplished at the Senegalese Embassy (Washington D.C.) or the
Senegalese Consulate (NYC) prior to travel, or travelers may also retrieve
their visas at Leopold Sedar Senghor airport (Dakar) or other posts along the
Senegalese border if they have already submitted their visa applications and
paid the required fees. You may be denied entry if you lack the proper
documentation before arriving in Senegal.
Travelers
should obtain the latest information on entry requirements from the Embassy of
Senegal, 2031 Florida Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20009. Tel (202) 234-0540.
Overseas inquiries should be made at the nearest Senegalese embassy or
consulate.
A note from Peace Corps: Peace Corps is unable to
provide any visitor with medical or logistical support. Please recommend that
your visitor(s) seek comprehensive medical coverage—including emergency air
evacuation insurance (SOS) - prior to their visit.
